Always a tremendous crowd favourite, the Historic Touring Car Championship, formally the Historic Racing Saloon Register (HRSR), is for saloon cars that were in series production before 1966. Cars can be developed in line with period modifications, and a separate class is run for cars complying with FIA Appendix K regulations. With Mini Coopers taking on Ford Anglias, Lotus Cortinas, Ford Mustangs and Ford Falcons, the racing is always exciting.
The Club, which was formed nearly 25 years ago, recreates a bygone era of Motor sport racing real cars around classic racing circuits. Not all Motor Racing has been ruined by electronics, on board computers and traction control. As the best-established and premier club for historic saloons we have been allied to the Historic Sports Car Club to provide this racing class for their championships for many years.
Drivers joke and socialise together and are always ready to give each other a word of encouragement or lend a hand. Of course the sport is a competition, but good manners, co-operation and sense of fair play are paramount.
The 2010 season, starts and finishes at the home of British Motorsport, Silverstone, with the opening round on Sunday the 28th March and the season finals on Sunday the 9th October. The 2009 overall champion Dan Cox in his Lotus Cortina will be attempting to retain his trophy again this year, but as usual he will undoubtedly have a season long fight on his hands.
