Historic Racing Saloons Register (HRSR) AGM

9th December, 2011

The Historic Racing Saloons Register (HRSR) held its AGM at the Crossroads Hotel, Weedon, on Sunday 27th November. A packed meeting room heard the HRSR chairman (and representative on the HSCC board), Peter Hore, review a very successful 2011 season and thank Mark Garritt, the ByBox MD, for his continuing support of the HRSR and the Historic Touring Car Championship (HTC). Peter Wray reported on the club finances, Cedric Osborne reviewed technical compliance and Dan Cox reminded all of the importance of maintaining good driving standards. Regular and very welcome guest, Grahame White, outlined the season ahead, with a similar calendar to 2011 firming up nicely.

The current committee (Peter Hore, Peter Wray, Dan Cox, Joe Gomm, Adrian Oliver, Les Ely) was voted in for another year and then a variety of members proposals were the subject of a lively debate. The essence of these were that the Technical Regulations, which have served so well over many years, should have a small adjustment, allowing overhead valve engine cars in class C to run 100kg lighter (previously 75kg)than overhead camshaft engine cars, in the interests of maintaining performance parity. Although no immediate adjustment was made, the committee advised those members developing cars in the very competitive class E that weight adjustments could be made there as well.

The meeting showed its appreciation of the excellent racing programme and organisation provided by the HSCC, and applauded the trend for maximising track time by holding more two day meetings. In the main, double headers are most popular, with support for a longer, pit-stop, two driver race as well.

The AGM was followed by the club awards, presented by honorary president Christina Maskell, and a buffet lunch for members and their families.

Mike Smith Resigns

11th November, 2011

The following is a letter from Mike Smith:

Hi,

I would just like to tell you that after very careful consideration I have decided to retire from circuit racing and have sold my car.
There are other things in life that I need to do, time is getting on, and there is no money tree in the garden.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my last 4 years with the HRSR and HSCC and would like to thank everyone for their camaraderie and enthusiasm and general concern especially when everything is not going so well, both car and body!!
It really has been great.
I will be around as a spectator and will be keeping an eye on you all, especially Class D competitors.
I would also like to thank the HRSR committee for keeping the house in order.
Thanks again and take care.

Mike Smith (Mini No 80)
